As I sit in the final day of this year, I wanted to reflect back on some of the good and not so good things that happened to me:
My thesis production: Les Liaisons Dangereuses was great. I am so proud of the all the hard work accomplished in bringing this production to life. It was ... a challenge on a lot of levels...
I graduated graduate school. I'm a real life MFA.
I assisted on Don Juan and directed Beautiful Star, both at Triad Stage. They were both incredible experiences.
I moved back to CA!
Wine trip with the family was to Cambria, Paso Robles and Solvang.
No so great included the results of this year's presidential election. This was a strong reminder of how important it is as an artists to cultivate a strong perspective. It is the arsenal in which pushes creation art. Things that you are passionate about, they will resonate with others. I've been thinking about this in terms of our political landscape and wondering how impartial an artist *can* be when they create. It is an ongoing search for the answer to that - but right now, it feels imperative. Anxious to see how much it influences me this coming year.
And then we get to the hopes for the New Year. Here are a few:
Now, more than ever, I want to be instrumental as an agent of social change.
Build a stronger and more varied list of experiences on my resume. I'm hoping to take some big risks.
Be a healthier version of my current self.
Be a better artist
Take more vacations, see more things.
It's a big list. But you gotta be ambitious - a year is enough time.
HAPPY NEW YEAR. Let's make 2017 a reflection of the best of ourselves.
